The Winding Wyvern

Location
Nestled in the heart of Felswald, The Winding Wyvern stands as a central landmark near the bustling town square. Its close proximity to the main temple and vibrant market makes it a key gathering spot for locals and travelers alike.
Description
This iconic two-story inn, built from sturdy timber and stone, is instantly recognizable by its hand-carved wyvern signpost. The building’s weathered exterior tells a tale of enduring service, while its glowing lanterns offer a beacon of warmth on Felswald’s colder nights.
Inside, the inn exudes a cozy yet lively atmosphere. A grand stone hearth crackles at the far end of the main room, casting a comforting glow over wooden tables and benches. Many of these bear the carved initials of patrons, adding a personal touch to the rustic decor. The walls are adorned with faded tapestries and an assortment of relics from past visitors, including foreign coins and broken blades, each with its own untold story.
History
Founded over a century ago by Osric Wylde, a retired adventurer, The Winding Wyvern began as a modest alehouse catering to local farmers and merchants. Osric’s captivating stories of daring exploits soon attracted visitors from far and wide, prompting expansions that included guest rooms and the now-famous wyvern carving.
Legends claim the wyvern was modeled after a creature Osric vanquished in his youth, adding an air of mystery to the inn’s heritage. Over the years, The Winding Wyvern has weathered fires, bandit raids, and even a siege during a local feud, solidifying its reputation as a resilient and steadfast establishment.
Features
Common Room
- The inn’s main gathering space, filled with mismatched wooden furniture that enhances its rustic charm.
- A small stage in the corner serves as a venue for local bards and occasional traveling performers.
- A prominent noticeboard near the bar provides postings for jobs, town news, and local rumors.
Guest Rooms
- The second floor features six modestly furnished rooms, each equipped with a sturdy bed, a lockable chest, and a writing desk.
- The Wyvern’s Wing, the inn’s luxurious suite, offers refined decor and a cozy sitting area, ideal for affluent guests or small parties.
The Cellar
- The cellar stores barrels of ale, casks of mead, and other provisions essential to the inn. A hidden trapdoor within is said to lead to a disused tunnel, adding intrigue to its otherwise utilitarian purpose.
Outdoor Stable
- Located behind the inn, the stable is well-maintained and offers secure lodging for mounts and storage for equipment. It is overseen by Elric, a cheerful and diligent stablehand.
Proprietor
- Gertrud “Trudy” Brumlow: Trudy, a sharp-witted and capable widow, manages the inn with unwavering efficiency. Her protective nature and quick humor endear her to both staff and patrons. Though pragmatic, Trudy harbors a wealth of knowledge about Felswald’s history and occasionally shares these insights with trusted visitors.
Menu Offerings
- Wyvern’s Stew: A hearty venison stew with root vegetables, accompanied by thick slices of crusty bread.
- The Felswald Brew: A locally brewed dark ale, infused with subtle hints of honey and spices.
